Daily Ways to Stay Positive

I am such a firm believer in mind over matter. I know some people think it’s just a cheesy saying or a way to make people better, but I really believe that when I’m in control of my mind, I can control what’s going on in my life. One of the things I find I struggle with is staying positive. I tend to let the negativity creep into my mind which is why I’m working so hard on ways to stay positive throughout the day.

Keeping my Mind Positive

I find that giving myself positive affirmations throughout the day can be extremely beneficial. Whether it’s because I’ve hit that mid-Wednesday slump where the week is only halfway through and I’m close to being fully done with life or it’s Monday morning and I’m feeling like the weekend left me drained, telling myself certain affirmations just really helps to turn my day away. One of my favourite things to do is to read empowering quotes from people, mainly women, that I admire.

Staying Grateful

This can almost go hand-in-hand with the quotes and affirmations but something that I try and do is remember the positive things that I have in my life and why I’m grateful for what I have. Yea, my day might be going really bad and I might feel unappreciated or overwhelmed, but there’s so many things in my life that I should be focusing on, things that I can be grateful for. My health, my relationships, my dogs, my family, the list goes on. Reminding myself of these things, and especially writing them down and making a little gratitude list, is an amazing way for me to take a second to think of what’s important and it helps my mind stay positive.

Staying Focused

I am one of those people who always has a list of goals going, both short-term and long-term. When I’m feeling de-motivated or overwhelmed, I find that it can really help my mood, and my mindset, to go over what I am working towards and to do something for those goals, even if it’s only something small. For example, say I am at my office and having the worlds worst day and everything is going wrong, then I’ll try and take a little break and focus on something that isn’t what is making me so frustrated and replace it with something I enjoy, something that helps me to stay positive, even for just a few minutes. So I’ll take a look at my never-ending list of books to read and choose my next read. Maybe I’ll go over my content schedule for my blog and see what posts I need to work and make a few notes for each one. Whatever it is I focus on I try to make sure that I do something that is still working, but that brings me satisfaction and is working on something that’s important to me and that I love.

I Look for Inspiration

I am totally that girl, as mentioned above, who loves a great quote and truly thinks that reading a few good ones can turn my day around. Something else that I do when I need inspiration or need perspective is to look at people who I admire, people who I find to be inspiring. Two people that I find to be so inspiring and who always help me to keep my own life in perspective is one of my good friends Tatiana Navarro and a newer friend Nalie Agustin. Both of these women have been through so much in their lives and they’ve both turned their struggles into amazing life changes and they both make the best out of every hand that their dealt and always find a way to stay positive. I encourage everyone to check out both of their blogs – the inspiration is never-ending with these strong ladies.

You’re Beautiful as You

Remember that scene in Mean Girls where the Plastics all stare at their reflections in the mirror and talk about the different things that they hate about themselves? I remember watching it when I was about 13 and thinking “so I guess this is what  being a teenager is”. Except that wasn’t what my teen self did. Yes, I had insecurities and things I didn’t love about myself but I never saw the purpose of critiquing yourself constantly, especially in a group setting. When friends of mine would go on the needless rants about what they hated or wanted to change, I played the dutiful friend card and let them know they were crazy and that they were beautiful.

Hello there 2018

Hello 2018!

It may sound cliche to celebrate the “new year, new me” mentality and while I can agree that it can be a bit of a scapegoat, I am so excited for this new year and what I’m working towards in it! I’m so excited to say Hello 2018!

2017 wasn’t a bad year, but it wasn’t amazing and that’s what I plan on making this year! I want to really work on myself, on making positive changes and working towards my own future.

AFA Reading List – August Edition

August is my final month of summer so I intend to get a lot of reading done. I’ve made it an August goal of mine to read at least 6 books, which is completely doable. Buying a Kindle has made it so much easier to read because I always have it on me and have over 75 books on it at the moment; I’ve finished 2 books this week! Last month I didn’t focus on novels so for the August reading list I’m doing half fiction, half non-fiction.

Monthly Goals – August 2017

I am one of those people who loves to plan ahead. I love making lists, organizing my planner, scheduling myself weeks in advance. Since I always have a million and one things going on, not staying organized isn’t an option for me. One of the things that I started doing was making monthly goals for myself. Nothing crazy or too out there. I like to set myself monthly skills to not only keep myself organized, but to give myself something to work towards.

Sunday Ritual for a Positive Monday

I am one of those people who absolutely loves Sundays. Back when I worked retail, I refused to work on Sundays just because I’ve always felt that the it was the best day to relax and decompress. I know a lot of people look at Sunday with the “ugh tomorrow is Monday” type of mentality but I promise you, ensuring a positive Sunday is a great way to end one week and start the next week on a positive note. This is why I’ve started with a bit of a Sunday ritual.

I’ve broken my Sunday ritual into two parts: enjoying my Sunday and mentally preparing myself for Monday. It’s no secret that I believe in being organized and staying organized (read all about my organization here) and doing it on Sunday is a great way to start your new week off already ahead of the game.

Boss Quotes for my Boss Ladies

Some of you may not know this about me but I am ALL about female empowerment. I really cannot think of something more beautiful than women supporting other women. I love reading a memoir where they’re talking about the women who have inspired them or the women who helped them out along the way. And sometimes, we just don’t feel all that powerful or boss-like. We feel like everything is against us and we just don’t want to leave our bed. It happens. So for those days, remember these boss quotes and kick that days ass.

Summer Bucket List

I love the idea of a bucket list, but it’s something that I’ve never put much thought into. Sure, I’ve made a list of things I want to try out and places I want to see but that’s for my entire life. Recently, I had a friend post about how they make a summer bucket list every year and I thought it was such an interesting idea!

AFA Reading List – July Edition

I know that I already posted about the books I want to read this summer but it’s barely July and I’ve already read all of those books! I’m so big on reading and it really is an amazing way to meet/connect with people! You can learn so much from someone from their taste in books. So, since my “summer reading list” barely made it to summer, I’ve decided to make this something I do on a monthly basis, my own AFA Reading List!

Sometimes it will be books that I need to read, sometimes I’ll include books I’ve read that I really suggest others read and why. I just think that reading for pleasure is something that is so easily overlooked and it really is a great way to bond with others. I mean, there are few better feelings than suggesting a book you love to someone who in turn loves that book and then you get to talk about why you both love it!

So, without any further babbling, here is my July reading list!
